Katharina Wunderlich und Lina Fai: Pilotinnen

Choreography: Katharina Wunderlich
Music: Lina Fai
August 2013 in Berlin

"Pilotinnen" is a relaxing and easy performance of singer Lina Fai and dancer Katharina Wunderlich. It is not the kind of performance I usually report. I saw Wunderlich years ago in an unforgettable duet with Armando Morais in Felix Landerer's "up to 70cm". Her soft twists and backwards locomotion defeating the gravity are unmistakable; recently while watching trailer of Schattenrosen, which is a music project by Lina Fai, I saw a dancer that I immediately knew was Wunderlich. We attended the performance, liked it, got a CD and looked for further performances, one of which was Pilotinnen.

On the picture above you see one of Katharina Wunderlich's backward bows. How does she do it? She is rather short (many dancers are surprisingly short, which you only notice when you talk to them in person), she used her left leg and left arm to keep the centre of gravity ahead of her right foot as long as possible, and when it tiped over she speeded up backwards.

Scenes of sleeping on board of a plane led to a series of pretty pictures, two of which I share above.
